Why Bees Are Essential
•Food Security and Agriculture:
One out of every three bites of food we eat depends on bees.
They are essential for pollinating high-value crops like apples, almonds, broccoli, blueberries, and cucumbers.
•Biodiversity and Ecosystem Health: Bees pollinate wild plants and trees, which are essential for creating habitats and food for other animals and insects, thereby supporting entire ecosystems.
•Economic Impact:
The western honey bee is the most common managed pollinator, producing 1.6 million tons of honey annually and supporting rural livelihoods. In the US, they contribute over $15 billion to the value of crop production.
•Natural Products:
Beyond pollination, bees produce honey, beeswax, and propolis, which have health benefits, including antioxidant and antibacterial properties
