Keeping Buckeye Lake healthy starts with understanding what’s happening beneath the surface! 🔎👀

In this behind-the-scenes look, Matt Baumann and Pete Thomas with Buckeye Lake for Tomorrow, along with Kyle Sites from Licking County Soil and Water Conservation District, give the community an inside look at the ongoing work behind water quality testing and lake maintenance.

From checking water clarity with a Secchi disk to testing nitrate and phosphorus levels, each step helps paint a clearer picture of the lake’s overall health. These routine tests also help identify where nutrients may be entering the water, which is an important part of protecting Buckeye Lake for the long term.

The good news is that early-season testing is already showing clear water and no nitrates, which is a great sign. That progress reflects the continued work happening across the lake, including aerators, geese management, dredging support, carp control, and tributary monitoring.

A big thank you to the Lake Keepers volunteers, Buckeye Lake for Tomorrow, local partners, and the community members who continue showing up to help keep Buckeye Lake cleaner and healthier.
