In California, the way buyer's real estate agents are compensated for doing their half of the work on the other side of the listing agent who sells a home is changing in a big way. You might have heard of the Class Action lawsuit that has happened. The CALIFORNIA ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS® and its national counterpart National Association of REALTORS® are working on new legal forms to make things at least *functional* when the new rules kick in as law on the day they're calling, "Settlement Implementation Date."
Did you know that in California, it's not legally necessary for compensation agreements between licensees to be in writing? Tip: Don't let your agent go without a written agreement or you'll find yourself standing next to them in court.
Did you know that in California, if you go to an open house without a written Buyer's Agreement with a licensee, the person at the open house has to require that you present such an Agreement, or sign with them or sign that you don't want any agent to represent you if you buy that house?
It's getting murky out there! Work with somebody who *knows* what they're doing, and someone you *trust* to have your best interests as their primary goal!
