So we FINALLY have an update that we can share. (Sorry this will be a long post)
It's been almost a month since the fire and there's been a lot of going back and forth with the insurance company as we've been asking for updates.
The last thing we were told (last week) was that they had to notify KB Homes (the builder) and Lin Air (a company that did some work in the attic regarding my mom's AC in 2021) that there was a fire investigation. Both companies will need to also send their experts into the house as well so no one (including the insurance company) could begin their investigation until all parties were ready to begin. Main reason, if one company went in and moved debris, the other company could claim that they tampered with evidence or were the cause of any damage of fault that was later discovered.
We received a message a couple days ago saying that next Monday (February 6th), the insurance company will be going in (hopefully with the investigators from the other company), to begin shoring up the walls and removing debris. I said hopefully as the insurance rep only left us a message and I've been playing phone tag with him for the last couple of days.
All this has to happen before my mom can even get any estimates for the rebuild. One, as the house has been drying out, some of the rafters have begun to shift, making the structure unsafe to enter. and two, the debris needs to be cleared out so that accurate measurements can taken.
So it's looking like at about a year before my family can move back in. After the debris removal, then the reclamation folks will come in to help my mom and sister sift through everything to see what can be salvageable. After that, any remaining debris has to be cleared out and then the rest of the house demolished. At that point, the rebuild can begin.
Given the length of how long this is looking like, my mom and sister have decided to move into a house up in Anthem that the insurance company found for them. They're almost moved into that home and thankfully, they will still be close by.
That's about it. Thanks for all the support and help that has been provided to my family and myself. I will post any new information we get, especially with regard to the investigation as we're eager to learn what will be found.
God bless and have a good night.
