A woman a few years ago lost her house at a government tax auction. It was sold for way more than she owed in taxes. Up until then, the government simply stole the proceeds no matter what the property sold for. She took the county all the way to the Supreme Court where surprisingly the Supreme Court ruled correctly that it was nothing more than theft by the state. Since then, if a property sells for more than the taxes owed the owner gets the difference back. Of course the government will fight tooth and nail to steal what they can. In Clark County they only give the person 1 year to redeem the proceeds. If you know anyone that has lost their home please check to see if they have money coming back to them. This is the link for Clark County NV. Every state and local government has to now allow for a redemption so check for anyone that has unfortunately fallen on hard time. The government will never offer to give the money back. The person has to fill out forms to receive their money back.
