If you've lived in the mountains very long you know the weather here is unpredictable, so it's hard to really believe we will see a big impact from snow or ice in coming days. However, this does have all the earmarks of a significant weather event due to sleet/ice and potential power outages. The winter storm watch has been replaced with an ice storm warning and power outages are expected for days in some areas.
If the roads are unsafe, our staff will stay home and you should too. If you are in a community we manage and you have an urgent maintenance need, please call the office (828-388-7177) and follow prompts to reach someone on-call. If it's not urgent, please submit in the online portal or leave a voicemail. We will do the best we can to address any emergencies. If you have a utility disruption, please contact your utility provider.
Thanks to Rose McDonald, our trusted office manager, and Harley & Cameron of Harleys Handyman and Driveway service, our dedicated maintenance professionals, as well as several other vendors and contractors who worked hard this week to prepare our communities for the anticipated precipitation.
We hope you all stay warm and safe!
As of 11 AM Fri 1/23: Ice Storm Warning now in effect for our entire forecast area, 1 PM Sat to 1 PM Mon, replacing Winter Storm Watch. Expected impacts haven't changed, but confidence has increased on significant/widespread impact mainly from freezing rain--thus the name change. Sleet still may mix in, but impacts will be on the level of an ice storm, including widespread and long-duration power outages.
