A single tile sample can look perfect on its own. Next to the wood, the countertop and the wall tile, it can tell a completely different story.

Here’s what we do at their design meeting with our home owners:

1. Lay everything on one table. Floor, wall, vanity and countertop, side by side, the way they’ll actually sit in the room.

2. Look at scale, not just color. A small pebble mosaic and a large-format wall tile can share the same palette and still read as two very different textures. Make sure the contrast is one you want.

3. Think about where your feet go. Smaller mosaics mean more grout lines. In a shower, that adds grip underfoot. In a high-traffic floor, it means more grout to maintain.

Selections often evolve once you see them together, and that’s exactly the point of the process.
