🎉 Big news for homebuyers! 🎉
Fannie Mae just announced a major change: starting November 16, 2025, its automated underwriting system (DU) will no longer enforce a single “minimum credit score” threshold.
🏡 Why this matters
• Previously many conforming loans required that “620” (or some similar number) baseline credit score. That requirement is being removed.
• Going forward, instead of a hard minimum score, the underwriting system will evaluate a borrower’s full profile (credit, debt, assets, history) in a more holistic way.
• For buyers with thin credit files or non-traditional credit histories, this opens up new possibilities.
If you’ve thought ‘my credit score is too low’—this change means you may still have a shot at a conforming loan.
Let’s review your full financial picture assets, payment history, non-traditional credit (rent, utilities) etc.—not just your score.
This doesn’t mean credit doesn’t matter it still does. But the rules are changing, so being proactive will prepare you.
