Want a greater voice in decisions affecting your home, your investment and our community? Consider serving on the Hermosa Victorian HOA board of directors.

A strong, effective HOA depends on titleholders who are willing to contribute their time, judgment and experience – especially as we make important decisions about the property, our finances and our shared future.

The time commitment is manageable: The board meets every other month for approximately one hour, just five times per year. It’s a relatively easy way to serve your community and help ensure that owners’ interests are represented.

If you’re interested, please complete the candidate nomination form included with the annual meeting notice you received recently via U.S. Mail and return it to Cammarata Management – or place it in the first-floor drop box near the mailboxes – by 5 p.m. Oct. 12.

The annual meeting and board election will be held at 6 p.m. Wed., Nov. 11, in the meeting room. Please consider stepping forward to serve.

Late summer and fall are prime swarming seasons for drywood termites in Southern California, so please keep an eye out for flying termites, discarded wings or other signs of activity. Although swarmers do not necessarily indicate an infestation, they serve as an important reminder that we all need to remain vigilant.

Prompt inspection, identification and treatment are the only ways we can keep termites under control – and avoid costly, logistically cumbersome tenting or extensive drywall removal and repair later.

Please report any suspected termite activity to Cammarata Management at (310) 325-1110 or [email protected].

A message about building plumbing:

The Hermosa Victorian Building was constructed in 1972. The pipes and hot water system are aging and subject to frequent repairs. In any given year, plumbing repairs are often one of the largest expenditures on the HOA’s operating budget.

We ask all homeowners and residents to be mindful of this and to be vigilant in our use of water and sewage in the building.

Let’s all please be conscientious and responsible in how we use hot water and what we choose to flush down our commodes and rinse down our sinks.

If we can limit our hot-water use and discard solids rather than rinse them down the sink, and please refrain from flushing anything that isn’t water soluble, it will help us keep our systems in useable condition and mitigate the ongoing expense of repairs.

If we do experience a plumbing emergency after hours, please contact Cammarata Management. In emergencies, the answering service will escalate our calls to the property manager on duty.

Thank you.

An arrest has been made related to the rash of e-bike and scooter thefts in the building. If you have questions or information about the matter, Officer Reyes of HBPD made the arrest.

Our HOA works best when it’s guided by the people who live here. We currently have one open seat on the board for a secretary – an important role that involves attending bi-monthly one-hour meetings, helping guide decisions, and voting on financial matters. The secretary can use AI to assist with meeting minutes, so the time commitment is reasonable. Filling this role also allows us to avoid hiring an outside secretary – an unnecessary expense that directly affects our HOA’s finances. Please consider getting involved, serving your community and working to preserve both the character and financial health of our community.

If you’re willing to serve, please reach out to Cammarata Management at [email protected] or Board President Juanita at [email protected].

2026 board meeting dates (6 p.m., Wednesdays):

• 14 January
• 11 March
• 13 May
• 8 July
• 9 September
• 11 November (annual titleholder meeting and board elections)

Due to extreme increases in the price of utilities, the board asks all residents to monitor and reduce their use of hot water and fireplaces. The HOA's Jan. and Feb. 2023 gas bills have seen three-fold increases in just two years, and the Feb. '23 bill consumed a full one third of our monthly operating budget, which is unsustainable. Ongoing bills of this size may require a special assessment to cover the increases. Thank you.

Victorian HOA So. Cal. Gas Co. bill trend line:

February
2021: $2,883
2022: 3,832
2023: 9,173

January
2021: $2,941
2022: 4,623
2023: 7,828

2023 monthly operating revenue from homeowner dues: $26,572
