The lowest construction bid isn’t always the least expensive one.

Before choosing a contractor, look beyond the final number and ask:

• Is the scope of work clearly explained?
• Are permits and inspections included?
• What materials are being used?
• Are cleanup and disposal included?
• Is the contractor properly licensed and insured?
• How will changes or unexpected work be handled?

A lower bid may leave out important items that get added later. A detailed proposal should make it clear what you’re paying for before the work begins.
