When the tenants moved out a few weeks ago, I thought it was the perfect opportunity to finally get rid of the popcorn ceiling in our condo. We shopped around for quotes and they came in between $7-10k. We were already over budget on some other updates within the unit and he didn’t want to spend anymore money. I then suggested doing it ourselves. His response: “There is no way we can tackle that on our own, so please let it go”. I wasn’t giving up. I then saved a series of DIY YouTube videos and we watched them together. He was clearly annoyed and maybe a little scared, but he agreed to it. We argued in Home Depot over which materials to purchase. He was stuck on the cheap s**t, so we ended up with two separate transactions. I couldn’t believe he made me pay for the items I wanted to use. We set a deadline, took a deep breath and began working. Halfway through day one, I started to regret my decision. As the days went by, I was overwhelmed with the amount of work and clean-up involved, but I wasn’t going to fold. I could tell that he was tired, but he pushed through. I knew that WE could get it done. This project was completed with blood, sweat, tears and an enormous sense of accomplishment. We learned together. We conquered this huge undertaking together. It was a major win for Team Beckford. He is a man of few words, but he sent me this post on IG and it made my heart smile.
