I drive past the The Old Mill of Guilford more often than I can count.

Like so many places along our daily routines, it became part of the scenery. Until I finally decided to stop.

I couldn't help but think about how easy it is to rush from one thing to the next and miss the stories that have been quietly waiting for us all along.

The Old Mill has been part of this community since the 1700s and is one of the oldest continuously operating grist mills. Today, it's still grinding grain, welcoming visitors, and even has a store that's worth stepping inside. (I included a little peek in the video!)

On a day when we celebrate our nation's history, I'm reminded that our communities are filled with places like this. Places that have witnessed generations of change, perseverance, and hope. Places that remind us that the legacy others leave behind doesn't just tell us where we've been. It helps guide what's possible.

Maybe that's why I love local history so much. It's an invitation to slow down, take the side road once in a while, and appreciate the people and places that shaped the communities we call home.
