Good morning, Denton County!

The Emergency Preparation Supplies Sales Tax Holiday runs April 25–27, 2026. During this time, Texans can purchase qualifying emergency supplies tax-free to help prepare for hurricanes, flash floods, wildfires, and other disasters.

The holiday begins at 12:01 a.m. on Saturday, April 25, and ends at midnight on Monday, April 27. There is no limit on qualifying items, and no exemption certificate is required.

Tax-free items include:
• Portable generators under $3,000
• Emergency ladders and hurricane shutters under $300
• Supplies under $75 such as axes, batteries, nonelectric can openers, carbon monoxide detectors, coolers and ice chests (non-electric), fire extinguishers, first aid kits, fuel containers, ground anchor systems and tie-down kits, hatchets, ice packs, portable self-powered light sources (including flashlights, lanterns, and candles), mobile phone batteries and chargers, portable radios (including weather and two-way radios), smoke detectors, and tarps or plastic sheeting

Purchases can be made in-store, online, by phone, mail, or custom order. To qualify, the transaction must be completed within the holiday period. Items purchased during the window qualify even if they are delivered later. However, the payment must be successfully processed within the eligible dates—if payment is not completed until after the holiday, the purchase is taxable.

Shipping, delivery, handling, and transportation charges are included in the total sales price and may affect whether an item qualifies under the price limits.

Certain items do not qualify, including camping equipment, chainsaws, tents, extension ladders, vehicle batteries, and similar supplies.
