We feel very lucky to have so many family and friends who would like to rent from us. That being said, the majority of our rental season is from family and friends, and very little comes from VRBO, meaning most of you who rent our cabin know us directly. It is very disheartening when we come here to see the disregard and destruction of some of our own personal property from people that we would otherwise expect to take care of our property best, because we are family and friends. We will continue to offer a rate that is substantially less to our family and friends, versus VRBO, however, if we have continued, and/or repeated behavior, and/or disregard for our property, we will charge a larger price or deny you the opportunity to rent from us again in the future. We ask, with respect, treat my home as if you would treat your own home, especially from family and friends I SHOULDN’T HAVE TO SAY THIS?!?! And quite literally we’re all adults! Behave like one before I don’t allow you here…..sorry not sorry, but again, respect goes a long ways! When I have to throw away towels because they were used to cleanup grease (and I’m not talking about one or two towels), beer caps or cigarette butts in my flower beds, missing sheets, blankets, pillows, etc., broken furniture without an incident report, the grill not cleaned up adequately (yeah if you don’t do it, someone else has to…hi, hello, I’m earth, have we met,?)…..we are done! We will start requiring a retainer fee via credit card if this behavior continues from particular renters, and we really hate to see a few bad apples ruin it for all. Accidents happen, we’re all human beings, I’ll tell you like I tell my kids, just be honest with me, I’m A LOT more mad when I’m lied to, or just simply not told anything to. If I’m aware of what I’m walking into, it’s a lot easier to deal with. Memorial Day weekend is always a “work weekend” for us, but this one seems like a little more you’re walking in blind sided to some of the aforementioned. I think I offer a more than fair rate to rent our house, Ryan says it’s not enough and he might be right after what we’re walking into for this summer. I have to replace several things, not because of wear and tear, but literal neglect, and/or disconcern for our personal property. I’ll leave it at that, but I expect more and better from “my people”! Ned time you rent someone’s house, consider the fact that IT’S SOMEONE ELSE’S FREAKING HOUSE!!!!!
