You can do all the research and preparation you want, but at some point the only way to really know is by just doing it!

Looking back, I think one of the biggest advantages we had buying young was that we didn’t fully understand how “big” the decision was supposed to feel. We weren’t consumed by the fear of mortgage debt or the pressure that comes with such a major financial commitment. We just knew we wanted to get our foot in the door 🏡

To be clear, that doesn’t mean we were reckless. We still took the time to learn the market, understand what we could realistically afford, and find a property that made sense for us. But we also didn’t let fear stop us from doing it!

At the time, we had very few responsibilities. No one else was financially relying on us, and we were able to buy a home that fit exactly what we needed in that season of life, and we were flexible enough to broaden our search criteria. We weren’t looking for our dream home, just the right home for now.

Now, we’re happily married and experiencing the long-term benefits that homeownership can create: stability, appreciation, financial flexibility, and wealth building over time.

If becoming a homeowner is one of your goals, starting young can be one of the biggest advantages you give yourself, even if the first home isn’t your “dream home.” Start where you can. Your future self will thank you for it!
