Such a great story...and product!

Zhach Pham and Steven Graf have been friends since second grade and were both product managers at software companies when a day of skiing in Colorado in 2019 changed everything. They leaned their skis against the car to pack up and watched them slide down and badly scratch the paint. That night at a bar, they sketched a product fix on the back of a receipt.

They validated demand with Meta pre-order ads before placing a single manufacturing order, split $3,685 out of pocket for initial tooling and 500 units and fulfilled the first orders themselves from a garage. Customer feedback on that first version pushed them toward a magnetic V2 — and the business took off from there.

In 2023 a storm-caused shipping delay threatened their holiday deadline and forced them to package thousands of orders themselves, drive to the Denver postal distribution center and drop off the packages in person to ship in time. They made it.

RigStrips has since expanded from ski and snowboard accessories into fishing, hunting, tailgating and car camping, hit over $2 million in annual sales and landed deals with outdoor retailers across the U.S., Europe, Canada and Asia. In 2024 they appeared on Shark Tank and inked a deal with Todd Graves, founder of Raising Cane's.

Their advice: establish a relationship with your customers early and listen to them. Many of their best-selling products came directly from those conversations.
