This 11-story, 184-unit rental apartment building at 800 Avenue at Port Imperial in Weehawken, N.J., was developed by Landsea, a Chinese concern, and designed by the IBI Group.
The horseshoe-shaped building is raised on a one-story podium facing the Hudson River, roughly across from 58th Street in Manhattan.
Occupancy is scheduled for early 2018.
It is distinguished by the slight angling of some of its floors, which gives the project an intriguing dynamic that is reflected in a promotional picture of a multi-layered umbrella near its large outdoor pool.
The building is the closest residential structure to the New York Waterway Ferry Terminal and Light Rail.
The development is Landsea’s first in the New York metropolitan area. It is also building a 30-story residential in Boston designed by Bernardo Fort-Brescia of Arquitectonica. An October 13, 2016 article at newyorkyimby.com by Rebecca Baird-Remba said that about 70 foreign investors helped finance this project under the federal EB-5 program in which such investors put at least $500,000 into a project to get a “green card.”
The article noted that “Congress passed a stopgap bill that extended the program’s funding until after the elections in November.”
