Got to go through this beauty today. Mostly original on the first floor from 1888 (floors, doors, trim, kitchen, windows, etc). The first church I have ever been to where the offices and kitchen were on the first floor and the church was on the second floor. And have never been in a building with a rotating steeple addition with a large telescope that opens up and used by a local astronomy club. I'm not one for heights so the walk around the 2' wide catwalk was not my idea of fun but had to inspect the building!

I love how the original hardwood floors in the old church are curved. And the room slopes left to right towards the old alter so the rear pews are elevated.

This one is going to be a challenge. Please support the local owners and the arts by attending one of their shows or events and thank them for restoring and reusing an old church in the city.

This is from a recent appraisal. Located in Royer, I was told by the owner this is the farm that is located behind Royer Mansion and provided the food for Royer Mansion. The pictures of of the original 1875 summer kitchen outside and inside. The large, original fireplace still has the chain to hang the kettle though most of the fireplace was covered up with some furniture.

Went through another old house today in Everett. It has changed a lot with several major additions but the basement (and verified by the tax card) gives away its age.

The first picture shows the hand-hew log floor joists on the ceiling. Though covered by a thin layer of plaster and some pegboard, the center of the picture has the original basement cooking fireplace since most cooking was done in the basement prior to the 1870's and 1880's (before detached summer kitchens became more common). The fireplace would have looked like the second picture which comes from the basement of a very old house in Hollidaysburg one block from the old canal.

The tax card dates the Everett house to 1860 which makes sense since it has a cooking fireplace in the basement as early to mid 1800's houses often did. The house was around for the start of the Civil War and witnessed Union Calvary retreating from Wi******er as General Lee was marching towards Gettysburg. Some information of that time is found in the link. Everett was formerly known as Bloody Run (a stream running through Everett has the same name).

Another interesting property appraisal. A property between Bedford and Cumberland. The first picture is what the property looks like today from Bedford Valley Road or Route 220 south. From what I was told, the old wagon trail or road went behind the house as it sits to day so you would be actually be looking at the back of the house. A fire damaged the rear section of the house so it was removed. A large porch was put in its place as well as an addition on each side of the first floor. This makes sense since there is a full basement under the right side of the porch that still has the original cooking fireplace from the 1840's in the basement but the flue has been removed (and would be on the right side of the front porch). The house has an age of 1843.

So moving to what is now the back of the house (or originally the front of the house) is an old log school house. I found a grave marker in the school house that stated it was from the Mexican-American war. That war started in 1846 so the owner could have built the house in 1843, went to fight in the war in 1846 and returned to this farm after the war. The driveway between the house and log building was said to be the original road.
