Buying the wrong property, at the wrong price, with the wrong financing… that’s what hurts people financially.

Here’s the reality:

β€’ Rent is 100% interest with no ownership.
β€’ A mortgage at least builds equity over time.
β€’ Yes, early mortgage payments are interest-heavy β€” that’s how amortization works β€” but eventually more goes toward principal.
β€’ Property taxes and insurance in Florida are definitely a major issue right now. Some homeowners are getting hit hard.
β€’ HOA communities can absolutely become a financial burden if reserves are underfunded or assessments hit.
β€’ Repairs are real β€” roofs, ACs, plumbing, etc. That’s why inspections and reserves matter.
β€’ And yes, when selling, commissions, closing costs, taxes, and market conditions can reduce profit.

But on the flip side:

People have also created generational wealth through real estate for decades. Appreciation, leverage, tax benefits, rental income, and equity are real advantages when a property is purchased strategically.

The problem is many buyers were sold the β€œAmerican Dream” without understanding the FULL cost of ownership.

Especially in Florida:

* insurance spikes
* HOA assessments
* flood zones
* rising taxes
* older roofs
* condo reserve laws

Those things can turn a β€œdream home” into financial stress fast if buyers aren’t educated beforehand.

β€œHomeownership isn’t a scam, but buying without understanding the true costs absolutely can become one.”
