Gaudí’s first house.

Casa Vicens was built between 1883 and 1885 in Barcelona’s Gràcia neighborhood as a summer home for Manel Vicens i Montaner.

It was Antoni Gaudí’s first major residential commission and already shows many elements that would define his later work: ceramic tiles, exposed brick, ironwork, natural motifs, and a strong connection between architecture and ornament.

The façade combines green-and-white tiles, red brick, stone, and floral patterns inspired by the natural world. Casa Vicens opened as a house museum in 2017.
