Beginning 2024-2025 tax year the home exemption will be $120,000 for homeowners under the age of 65. For homeowners 65and older the home exemption is $160,000. Highlighting this universal design feature in this kitchen for one of my clients. Doing meal prep at wheelchair level is sometimes challenging. This kitchen has two counter top heights which can allow meal prep to be done while sitting. Energy conservation ✅ universal design ✅

This is in Waikiki at the Windsor Condos. The Windsor was a hotel and then converted into Condos. Both units we previewed at the Windsor had kitchen counters with two heights. Bravo to the design team for having this universal design feature.

32 years ago today the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was signed into law. I wanted to share with everyone what I have been up to as an Occupational Therapist and a Realtor. I have been really enjoying making these for my my clients. This video shows what I like to do for my buyer clients before I bring them into a showing. I like to take all the measurements beforehand so on the day of the showing they know what to expect as far as accessible areas of the home. Although it is very tough to find a “ADA” accessible home their are homes that have universal design features like this one and also homes that could be easily modified to have more universal design features. This preview was for a client who uses a wheelchair part time but still would benefit from many universal design features.

How does your home rank? Admittedly, I have some work to be done with my own little town home.
Since completing the ECHM certification last year, I have helped my home health clients with home modifications. Tapping into resources in the community here in Honolulu, I have been able to obtain funding for some.
