Most families intend to have this conversation. They just keep pushing it "after the holidays," "when things slow down," "when the kids are in town."

Then a diagnosis, a fall, or a phone call from the hospital schedules it for you. And suddenly it's happening in a waiting room, under stress, with fewer options than you had six months ago.

Swipe through for how to run the real family meeting before that happens.

Post the agenda today. Even a placeholder reclaims control of your family's story, before a crisis writes it for you.

Tag or send this to the family member who needs to see it. πŸ‘‡

"Someday" isn't a plan. It's a gamble.

The family conversation you keep delaying will happen eventually β€” the only question is whether you choose the time and place, or a hospital hallway does it for you.

Watch how to run the real family meeting, before a crisis does it for you. πŸ‘‡

Most families never talk about what happens to the property until it's too late and by then, the decision isn't a conversation anymore. It's a dispute. Or a tax bill. Or both.

Property Decisions: Avoid Family Disputes and Painful Taxes to Build a Legacy That Lasts walks you through the conversations and planning steps that turn a property transition into a gift for the next generation, instead of a source of resentment.

The best time to plan is before you need to. The second best time is now.

Always grateful for the opportunity to reconnect with friends from across the country, build new relationships, and learn from the best in the business.❀️

A big takeaway for me was hearing Simon Sinek talk about the importance of friendships and always coming back to the WHY behind what we do. Gary Keller also shared some powerful insights on fear, wealth, and the mindset behind building a meaningful life.

At the end of the day, business is about people. The relationships we build, the lives we impact, and the purpose behind the work are what matter most.

Most families only have "the meeting" after a crisis hits. By then, you're not planning β€” you're reacting.

The families who get this right do something different: they meet before they have to. Not to make big decisions on the spot, but to figure out what decisions are even coming, who needs to be in the room, and what's still unknown.

The goal isn't to solve everything in one sitting. It's to walk away with clarity on what still needs to be figured out.

The most powerful question in estate planning isn't "who's right?" It's "can we agree?"

Not on every decision. Not on every solution. Just on the principles that will guide you when the hard decisions come.

Most families wait for a crisis to force the conversation β€” a fall, a diagnosis, a hospital room. By then, everyone's scared, and it's easy to mistake urgency for clarity.

You don't need consensus on everything. You need alignment on what matters.

Run this meeting now while everyone's calm, clear-headed, and still able to listen. Because if you don't run it, the crisis will run it for you.

I'll be diving into how smart real estate strategy can be one of the most powerful tools for building and passing down lasting wealth across generations. Grateful to Opal Group for the invitation, and looking forward to connecting with so many great minds in the family office and private wealth space.

See you there!

After helping over 1,600 families navigate this exact conversation, here's what we've learned: successful transitions rarely happen in the middle of an emergency. They happen before it β€” before the fall, before the diagnosis, before the moment you didn't see coming.

That's why the family conversation matters so much. The decisions you make before you need them are the ones that actually protect you.

"How will I pay for care?"

We plan for retirement vacations. We plan for inflation. But most people never plan for the cost of long-term care and today, that can easily run over $100,000 a year, per person.

If you're blessed with a long life, care isn't a maybe. It's a when.

So here's the real question: do you have long-term care insurance? If not, what's your plan?

This is exactly why longevity has to be part of every real estate conversation, not an afterthought.

The question we never ask ourselves: will your home survive what comes after retirement?

I've watched too many families face this the hard way: a health crisis, a rushed decision, and decades of equity gone in 3 to 5 years. The good news is this doesn't have to be your story.

This is exactly why Julie and I wrote Property Decisions: Avoid Family Disputes and Painful Taxes to Build a Legacy That Lasts with a foreword by Gary Keller. It's everything we've learned about protecting the home you built, avoiding family conflict, and passing on a legacy instead of a liability.
