In church today, shared a bike parable that really touched my heart. It’s a story of a little girl named Sarrah who wanted a bicycle more than anything in the world. Her father told her that if she worked hard and saved every penny, she could get her bike. So Sarrah saved every bit of change she could round up and the big day finally came. She proudly presented her pennies to Dad. She had 61 cents.
The two went shopping for her dream bike. But when the girl found out how expensive bikes were, she said, “Dad, I don’t think I could ever save enough money to buy a bike!” He looked at Sarrah.
You can imagine the heartbreak. ❤️🩹 All that hard work, and it still wasn’t enough. Tears filled Sarrah’s eyes. (Adding this line myself for emotion. 😢)
That’s when her dad stepped in, and comforted the bike enthusiast saying, “Hand over the 61 cents, a hug and a kiss and I’ll make up the rest.”
The sweet daughter simply wrapped her arms around his neck, gave him a big hug, a kiss on the cheek, and handed over her pennies.
I assume Sarrah’s Dad smiled, pulled out his wallet, and paid the rest of the balance. Then he turned to his daughter and said, “Your 61 cents, plus your hug and kiss, are more than enough. The bike is yours.” Father drove along Sarrah who biked all the way home.
This modern-day parable is truly a beautiful picture of the Savior’s love for us. Drew tied this story to the Atonement in his talk and that “sometimes we feel like our own efforts fall so far short of what is required. But our Savior just asks us to give our best.” 🥰🙏 Our “61 cents,” along with our love, our heart, a hug, and a kiss.
When we think of Jesus and offer all that we have, His Atonement steps in to bridge the gap and make up for every penny we are short. The Savior’s sacrifice mixed with love is always more than enough. ❤️✨
