🚨Arkansas Peeps!!! ! Emergency 🚧
Here is a list of things that will help prepare your Home for the impending Snow/ice headed our way this Friday!
Protect Your Pipes (The Absolute Priority) 🚰
Drip the Faucets: Allow both hot and cold faucets to drip slowly, especially those located on exterior walls. Moving water is less likely to freeze.
Open Cabinet Doors: Keep kitchen and bathroom cabinet doors open to allow heat from the room to reach the plumbing underneath.
Steady Heat: Keep the thermostat set to the same temperature during the day and night. Do not let the house drop below 65°F during a deep freeze.
Manage Exterior Water Sources ❄️
Disconnect Hoses: Remove all garden hoses from outdoor spigots. Water trapped in a hose can freeze and cause the pipe inside the wall to burst.
Insulate Spigots: Use foam covers or heavy fabric to wrap outdoor faucets to protect them from the biting wind.
Seal Out the Cold Air 🚪
Close the Garage: Keep garage doors closed to protect any water lines running through the walls or ceiling of the garage.
Block Drafts: Use "draft snakes" or rolled-up towels at the base of exterior doors and windows to keep the warmth inside.
Optimize Indoor Heating 🌀
Reverse Ceiling Fans: Set fans to run clockwise at a low speed. This pulls cool air up and pushes the warm air trapped at the ceiling back down to your living level.
Unblock Vents: Ensure furniture and curtains aren't covering heat registers or radiators.
Prevent Roof and Gutter Issues đźŹ
Clear Debris: Ensure gutters are clear so melting snow can drain. If gutters are clogged, ice can back up under your shingles (ice dams) and cause leaks inside.
Safety and Emergency Prep 🔦
Check Detectors: Ensure smoke and carbon monoxide detectors have fresh batteries, especially if you are using a fireplace or space heater.
Secondary Water Source: If a power or water outage is possible, fill a bathtub with water so you have a supply for manually flushing toilets.
