Greetings everyone. I hope this post finds you all well. I wanted to talk about something that generally affects everyone, allergies. Yes, we all have allergies or symptoms of allergies throughout the year with some people suffering more than others. But did you know that our homes can contribute to our allergies as well. There are Five Big Offenders when it comes to indoor allergens.
1. Mold Spores. These thrive in damp spots, behind drywall, under sinks, around windowsills.
2. Dust Mites. Love warm, soft spaces like mattresses, carpets, and even stuffed toys.
3. Pet Dander. Tiny skin flakes from cats and dogs that cling to fabric and ducts.
4. Cockroach Droppings. Body parts that collect in kitchens and crawlspaces.
5. Pollen. Brought indoors by sticking to clothing and coming through open windows. These particles settle on shelves and window ledges.
These Big Five cause itchy eyes, wheezing, or worse for sensitive occupants. That is why a thorough home inspection is needed when purchasing a home. Although these issues cannot always be discovered on a home inspection, there are indicators and tools that an inspector can use to give a prospective buyer the information that they will need to address these potential issues.
Next time, we will review some tips for avoiding the Big Five. Until then, God Bless and be safe.
