🖤❤️💛💚 What Is Juneteenth? 💚💛❤️🖤

Observed each year on June 19, Juneteenth commemorates the day in 1865 when news of freedom finally reached enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas—more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued by President Abraham Lincoln.

Juneteenth is recognized as the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the end of slavery in the United States and became a federal holiday in 2021. It is a day to honor freedom, reflect on our nation's history, celebrate Black culture and achievements, and continue conversations about equality and opportunity.

At the Bayou Board of REALTORS®, we believe strong communities are built through understanding, respect, and equal access to opportunities. Today, we join in recognizing the significance of Juneteenth and the enduring values of resilience, unity, and progress.

Happy Juneteenth from the Bayou Board of REALTORS®.

🏡 June is National Homeownership Month

Homeownership remains one of the most powerful pathways to building wealth, strengthening communities, and creating long-term stability. Yet across the country, a housing shortage continues to make that dream harder to achieve for many families.

The U.S. faces an underbuilding gap of 5.5 million homes, representing a staggering $4.4 trillion underinvestment in housing. Addressing this challenge requires solutions that increase housing supply, support first-time buyers, encourage investment in communities, and expand opportunities for all Americans.

That's why REALTORS® and the National Association of REALTORS® are advocating for policies that:

✅ Increase housing inventory and affordability
✅ Support first-time homebuyers with greater access to down payment resources
✅ Encourage rehabilitation and construction of owner-occupied homes
✅ Preserve incentives that promote homeownership and real estate investment
✅ Expand fair housing protections and equal access to professional representation
✅ Support initiatives aimed at increasing sustainable homeownership opportunities for underserved communities

During National Homeownership Month, we celebrate the value of owning a home while continuing to advocate for policies that help make homeownership attainable for future generations.

Because stronger communities begin with more people having a place to call home. ❤️🏠

🏡 June is National Homeownership Month! 🏡

Homeownership remains one of the most powerful ways to build wealth, strengthen communities, and create opportunities for future generations. Yet across the country, a severe housing shortage continues to make the dream of homeownership harder to achieve for many families.

The National Association of REALTORS® is advocating for solutions that increase housing inventory, improve affordability, and expand access to homeownership, including:

✅ Incentives to encourage more homeowners to sell and add homes to the market
✅ Investment in building and rehabilitating affordable, owner-occupied homes
✅ Expanding affordable housing development opportunities
✅ Reducing barriers to new housing construction
✅ Converting underused commercial spaces into housing
✅ Helping first-time homebuyers save for and purchase a home
✅ Supporting small business owners and independent contractors
✅ Preserving tools that encourage real estate investment and community growth

NAR is also working to ensure fair and equal access to housing for all Americans by supporting fair housing protections, advocating for veterans, and promoting initiatives that expand homeownership opportunities in underserved communities.

This National Homeownership Month, let's celebrate the value of homeownership while continuing to support policies that make homeownership possible for more people.

🏠 Stronger housing opportunities create stronger communities.
