Lawn care tip of the day: Mowing
Mow grass whenever it is growing, provided the ground isn't too wet or icy to walk on. In spring, mow once a week with the blades at their highest setting, and gradually lower them as growth accelerates. Use a box to collect the clippings, which can be composted, or use a "mulching mower" which doesn't remove the grass but chops it into fine pieces, returning nutrients to the lawn. Rake off thick patches of clippings, which will damage the turf. In summer, a high-quality lawn may need cutting three times a week, but in autumn, as growth slows, once or twice a week should suffice. - HGTV http://www.hgtv.com/gardening/how-to-care-for-your-lawn/index.html

Lawn care tip of the day: Scalping Lawn
Avoid scalping grass, which is cutting it too short. A scalped lawn is vulnerable to diseases and w**d infestation. Scalped turf tends to be weak and sparse, which exposes soil. One of the No. 1 contributors to w**d success is exposed soil that allows w**d seed to take root. A sparse lawn also lets sunlight reach w**d seedlings and give them a boost. Grass that’s consistently cut too short has a poorly developed root system, which makes the lawn more susceptible to serious damage from drought or high temperatures. - DIY Network website http://www.diynetwork.com/outdoors/13-mowing-tips-for-a-healthy-lawn/pictures/index.html

Lawn care tip of the day: Controlling w**ds. The best way to control w**ds is to have healthy, vigorously growing lawn grasses. Control early-sprouting w**ds with a pre-emergent herbicide—corn-gluten-based formulas are eco-friendly options. These herbicides inhibit seed germination, so don’t use them on newly seeded areas. - Yahoo Homes (https://homes.yahoo.com/news/tips-for-early-spring-lawn-care-205750501.html?soc_src=copy)
