Today, we honor Juneteenth a day of freedom, remembrance, resilience, and truth.

On June 19, 1865, enslaved people in Galveston, Texas finally received the news that they were free, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation had been signed. That delay is a painful reminder that freedom has never been handed over easily. It has been fought for by generations who refused to give up.

Juneteenth is not just Black history, it is American history. It calls us to remember the pain of the past, celebrate the strength of those who came before us, and recommit ourselves to building a future rooted in justice, opportunity, unity, and true freedom for all.

Today, we celebrate progress, but we also recognize that the work continues. May we honor this day not only with our words, but with our actions, our compassion, and our commitment to creating a better world for the next generation.
