How Does this Affect Homebuyers?
1. Short-term relief: Lower rates signal to markets that borrowing should become cheaper. That often leads to a drop in long-term bond yields (like the 10-year Treasury), which mortgage rates closely follow.
2. Mortgage rates may ease: If investors believe inflation is cooling and the Fed is pivoting toward easier policy, you’ll likely see lower 30-year fixed mortgage rates — perhaps a quarter-point or more over the next few weeks.

In Texas, the deadline to file a property tax protest is May 15 or 30 days after the appraisal district mails your Notice of Appraised Value, whichever is later.

For example, if your appraisal notice was mailed on April 25, your protest deadline would be May 25. However, if the notice was sent earlier, say on April 10, the deadline would default to May 15. It's important to note that if the deadline falls on a weekend or holiday, it extends to the next business day.

To file your protest, you can:

Online: Visit the Harris County or Galveston Central Appraisal District's website and use their online protest system.

By Mail: Complete and send Form 50-132, the Property Owner’s Notice of Protest, to the appraisal district's address.

In Person: Submit your protest directly at the appraisal district's office.

Be sure your protest includes your property information and the reason for your protest. After filing, you may request an informal conference to discuss your valuation before a formal hearing is scheduled.
