Happy New Year! I hope you enjoyed the Holiday Season in your new home. I wanted to send you a quick message to remind you to apply for your Homestead Exemption. You can apply for it anytime between January 1st - April 30th. To apply for a Homestead Exemption, you must be occupying the property as your primary residence on January 1st of this tax year, and have no other residence that you are currently claiming as your Homestead. To apply for the Residential Homestead Exemption, fill in the application and file it with the County where the property is located. I have attached the Homestead Exemption Application for Fort Bend, Harris and Waller County and have the phone number and website links to the county appraisal districts. If you live in Harris County, you can now electronically file your residential homestead exemption utilizing the HCAD Mobile App. On your mobile device, go to Apple App Store or Google Play and search for “Harris County Appraisal District”.
