I’ve lived in Pearland for over 20 years now, and I still come across things that surprise people (and myself) all the time.

5 facts about Pearland that most people don’t know 👇

01 — Pearland didn’t just “grow around” the railroad… it actually shifted closer to it in the late 1800s because that’s where the opportunity was. The town literally moved with the rails.

02 — The name “Pearland” comes from wild pear trees that once covered the area. Most people are surprised to learn it was originally an agricultural community long before it became a Houston suburb staple.

03 — Pearland spans three counties — Brazoria, Harris, and Fort Bend. That’s why neighbors just a few streets apart can have totally different school zones, taxes, and services.

04 — What feels like one unified suburb today actually sits on a mix of former prairie farmland and ranch land. That’s why you still see pockets of acreage, especially along corridors like Dixie Farm Road.

05 — One of the most surprising things for newcomers? How quickly it feels like home. People move here expecting “just a suburb of Houston” and end up staying for the space, community feel, and slower pockets of life tucked between all the growth.
