It's a giggle-filled jaunt back in time! I grew up in a quintessential "middle class" American nest. My parents kicked off their adventure in a snug 2-bedroom, 2-bath block home from the '50s, expanding its cozy embrace in 1989 when my sister needed her own room, being the older one and all. They've been house-sweet-house loyal ever since, classic boomers believing in the art of staying put.

When it was my turn to spread my wings, I wandered South and Central Florida like a curious explorer. At 23, I found my own little paradise—a love-at-first-sight concrete block gem: a 2-bedroom, 1.5-bath cutie, just over 1,000 sq ft. My pride was sky-high, even if the mortgage gave me the jitters. We welcomed our son into this darling nook, mastered the art of lawn mowing, laid down chic laminate floors, and juggled a $660 mortgage—talk about an adventure!

Zip ahead 22 years, and housing prices have shot to the stars! We stayed put for almost 7 years, until baby #2 came along, nudging us toward bigger digs. Saying goodbye to that house was like parting with a dear pal. Those walls saw two little miracles, hosted neighborly shindigs, and sported a peachy Costa Rica-inspired coat that faded to a charming Pepto Bismol pink, LOL.

Every Florida visit, I can't resist rolling by that old haunt. It was just right for our tiny tribe, and I even entertained the idea of expanding it like my parents did. Fast forward, and we've bounced through six homes. Now, with our eldest nearing 21 and the youngest at 16, we're on the brink of empty-nester-ville and dreaming of a snug retreat like our first. It's funny how we shoot for the stars, hit the jackpot, and then long for a cozy little nest like our beginnings.

The moral of this saga? Start small, dream big, and make savvy choices so later in life, you too can cozy up wherever your heart desires. My parents think we're bonkers for our moving escapades, but we're adventurers at heart, chasing the dream. Now, we're eyeing that third chapter, ready to embrace empty nesting once more.
