Recognize the name. Verify the request.
Impersonation attempts can be convincing because they may look and sound like legitimate transaction communications.
A message may appear to come from a real estate agent, lender, attorney, title or escrow professional, or another party involved in the transaction. Familiar names, terminology, and transaction details can make an unexpected request seem routine.
That's why familiarity alone may not be enough. If a request involves funds, is unexpected, sensitive, or represents a change in the normal process, independently verify it using known, trusted contact information rather than relying on the information provided in the message.
