Paying Points…. Are they worth it?

Short answer: it depends. For those buyers purchasing homes today it may not be worth it because when interest rates come back down in the next year or so those points they’re paying for (whether they’re seller paid or not) instantly become a sunk cost when they refinance.

So it’s important to understand what it is EXACTLY you’re signing up for when your lender is charging points, regardless of who is paying for them.
