A small change can be a big reason to stop and pause.
Not every suspicious communication is obvious. In a real estate transaction, a message may include familiar names, accurate transaction details, and a request that seems reasonable at first glance.
A red flag may come from details that do not align with what you expect, such as a different sender address, an unexpected request, changed instructions, unusual urgency, or a shift from the normal process.
Any one of these does not necessarily indicate fraud. But when something feels inconsistent, consider pausing before responding, sharing information, or taking action.
Verify requests through a known, trusted communication method and follow the procedures established by your title or escrow company. For work-related communications, follow your organization’s reporting process when appropriate.
