Today was our monthly bingo game/birthday luncheon. Today, instead of pot luck, we did tacos. I volunteered to bring the taco meat, then tracked/assigned the remaining ingredients to make sure we had what we needed, but didn’t have duplicates, and that we also had desserts. It worked out really well. We had two sick ladies who couldn’t come, and we had a couple who weren’t feeling well and had to bug out early, yet we had a full house. We were a bit crowded. Mr. Neal did the calling again, which is always fun. He makes everyone laugh. We had several prize winners. It was a good time. We missed Ms Roberta and Ms Sue. Please keep them in your prayers. Ms Sue had a mishap with a bowl of soup and burned her leg rather badly. Ms Roberta recently returned to her apartment following a medical episode and she wasn’t having the best day. It was a beautiful day here. I am giving some thought to what we might do next month. A spaghetti dinner with bread, salads, and desserts crossed my mind.

Today the valentine gnomes came down and the leprechauns went up. Today was also our birthday meal/bingo game and my people practically wiped out my prize box. I will have to restock before next month Miss Clarice had an out-of-town appointment and couldn’t be there today and Miss Roberta was feeling under the weather. They were sorely missed. Mr. Dean did the calling and fried up some freshly caught fish. I have been super busy so I stayed in the office and worked and just showed up in time for picture taking. I think everyone had a good time. I could hear them laughing while I was in my office working. It was a beautiful day in the Neighbourhood!

Merry Christmas from all the residents to all of you. Our wish is for a happy, peaceful, safe, and blessed holiday. Enjoy family and friends but remember the reason for the season and make that a part of your day, as well.

I got lazy and ran to Subway to pick up a sandwich instead of cooking this evening. When I came back a group of carolers were standing in front of my apartment singing their hearts out while four or five little kids danced around. My little bulldog, Max, was staring out the window with his little stubby tail wagging. They are going to each apartment. I think it is just the sweetest thing to bring cheer to the residents here. What would the world be without music, especially at Christmas time. Our wish here is for everyone to have a safe and wonderful Christmas. The reason for the season is our savior, Jesus Christ.

Today was our October bingo game/birthday meal. We will be having them during the day through the winter and resume evenings again in the spring. As always, Dean did an excellent job of calling. I am always glad when he takes on that job, and was extra thankful today as I was really busy and kept having to leave to attend to business. We were glad to welcome our newest tenant, Carol Stickens. She had beginners luck and won two games. Bernice joined us for the first time in awhile. We missed three of our regulars who weren’t able to make it this month. Everyone is looking forward to Barb coming home from Florida. She has been visiting her daughter in Florida and we have missed her. We had a good laugh about the walkers lined up outside the door and it was actually their suggestion that I include pics of those. 😊

While not elaborate, we are geared up for Autumn/Halloween here at the office. Mr Frankenstein Gnome and the little Ghostie are visiting until October 31st, and the mums from the FFA greenhouse are beautiful. The sunflower wreath on the door was made by Lesa at D and L Florist. A shout out to our maintenance guy, Jay York and also to the man who does so much work on the grounds pro gratis. These men work hard to keep the grounds in tip-too shape. Jeff’s assistance is invaluable. He trims and disposes of limbs, clears debris and overgrowth, runs the weedeater in the summer, the leaf blower in the autumn, and the snow shovel during winter months. In addition, many of the tenants need help personally and he provides that help. His only compensation is the M&Ms that he receives from tenants, as well as from Jay and I. We are aware of his sweet tooth and that those are his favorite candy. Here he is wearing his sun hat one of the tenants gifted him, which was one of the prizes she received when she won customer of the month at our local Sonic. We have teased that we are going to hang a sign around his neck which reads, “Will work for M & Ms”. We love the feeling of community that we have here at housing.

Tonight was our final evening bingo/birthday dinner till the daylight hours again lengthen. I don’t want my people walking after dark, especially in the winter chill. We will pick up the evening game nights in the spring. Safety is important and we look out for each other here. One of our newest tenants, 92-year young, Roberta, is the sweetest lady, brings awesome food to our dinners, and quickly became very loved in our housing community. She is the perfect example of a southern lady full of grace, with a sunny disposition. I didn’t get pictures of the full attendance but tonight’s winners were Louise, who chose a hand-crafted Halloween dreamcatcher, compliments of Kim Matthews who donated it; Rhonda, who chose a set of wooden utensils; Cat, who chose a hand-crafted “He’s got the Whole World” hand; and Jan, Barb, Sue, and Debbie each chose Bath and Body Works Hand soaps. We missed our “emcee”, Dean, who usually does the calling and livens things up with his light-hearted joking. Till next month, ladies!…..and Dean?

Tonight was bingo night/birthday dinner. We had an awesome time with lots of great food. Dean had caught fish and he and Sonny fried a big batch up. Dean gave me a break again and was our “emcee”. He always has people laughing with his jokes. Three of our regular gals….Barb, Louise, and Debbie….had to miss tonight. Debbie is on vacation in Florida all week. I hope she is having a blast! We sure missed all three of them, but we still had a full house. Paula, Glenda, Rhonda, and Virginia each won a game. Kathy took home two prizes and Roberta took home two, also. Miss Roberta is the sweetest, spunkiest little gal you could ever hope to meet. She is 92 years young and is one of our newest tenants. She has wiggled her way into everyone’s hearts. Flowers are bloomed out like crazy around the property and it looks beautiful here. We have seen some wildlife around. We are hoping the stormy season is just about finished. Last night we had toppled flower containers and a bit of cleanup to do today.

Tonight was our April Bingo/ Birthday dinner. We had not done this for a few months due to winter weather and sickness. I think everyone was glad to meet up and visit. We had a full house and were packed in there like sardines. Dean Neal volunteered to call (He also entertained the crowd)and I got to help serve the people then sit and watch the happenings. It was Virginia’s birthday and she got a birthday song. Louise’s granddaughter, Allison came and played. We are always glad to have her. We had several people who took home prizes. Winners were Clarice, Louise, Glenda, Jan, Deana, Virginia, Cat, Kim and Rhonda. They each got to pick from the “Treasure Chest”. It was good to see everyone relax and enjoy the camaraderie.

We had a holiday luncheon at housing last week. We had tenants with medical appointments and illness who couldn’t come but all those who attended really enjoyed it. We provided smoked turkey, smoked ham, and the drinks and the attendees brought side dishes. We have some wonderful cooks who live here. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from management, the Board of Directors and all the folks who live at the Hamrick Terrace Apartments!
