A friend, and a couple of realtor colleagues brought up the decline of pending home sales across the U.S. This is a great article, but it's important to understand that what happens on the national level doesn't always happen at the local level.
In Houston, pending home sales in the last 3 months have went in the exact opposite direction of the national numbers. The last 3 months pending home sales of Houston are up 43% (Sept), 38% (Oct), and up 31% (Nov).

Pending home sales, the number of homes that are under contract to be sold, fell 2.6% to 125.7 last month from October — the third straight month of declines — according to the National Association of Realtors.
