They say TV can shape a childâs personality. That might explain why some folks say I:
⢠Dress like Ben Cartwright,
⢠Carry the demeanor of Sheriff Andy Taylor, and
⢠Lead like Colonel Sherman Potter
Truth is⌠they didnât just entertain us. They taught us how to live with honor, compassion, and conviction.
Ben Cartwright: Taught us to honor our family name and carry real responsibility. Not wealth in land or cattle, but in character and legacy. âA good man leaves an inheritance to his childrenâs children.â â Proverbs 13:22
Sheriff Andy Taylor: Taught us that gentleness isnât weakness â itâs wisdom. âLet your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near.â â Philippians 4:5
He didnât lead with fear. He led with patience, peace, and moral clarity. âBlessed are the peacemakersâŚâ Matthew 5:9
Colonel Sherman Potter: Led through war with courage, humility, and grit. âEndure hardship with us like a good soldier of Christ Jesus.â â 2 Timothy 2:3 âAct justly, love mercy, walk humblyâŚâ Micah 6:8
These werenât just TV characters. They were blueprints for life.
Todayâs Media Is Louder⌠but Is It Better?
The world is fighting for our childrenâs attention. And as Scripture warns: âBe sober-minded; be watchful⌠your adversary the devil prowls like a roaring lionâŚâ 1 Peter 5:8
We canât let the worldliness of Hollywood shape hearts that were made for Heaven.
Ask yourself:
⢠Whoâs influencing your childâs character?
⢠What are they watching?
⢠What kind of leadership are they learning to follow?
âTrain up a child in the way he should goâŚâ (Proverbs 22:6)
This isnât about going backward. Itâs about standing firm; preserving truth, modeling values, and living them out, as examples for our children.
Letâs raise a generation who doesnât just binge content⌠but builds character. Because what they watch today, may very well shape who they become tomorrow.
