We are a family-run, design/build company located in the heart of Houston.

We are passionate about creating living spaces with meaning. Ashwood Designs & Custom Homes believe in its ability to maximize the quality of our clients' experience through the development of unparalleled living spaces. We cherish the relationships with our clients and find much success collaborating through open communication and honesty. Ashwood Designs & Custom Homes grew out of a lifelong passion for art and the gratification of building with your own hands. Our founder, Ross Huthmacher was first exposed to home improvement projects as a kid with his father, he then progressed to full-scale remodeling projects after the purchase of his first home in 2004. Over the course of the next seven years, Ross combined his business education, entrepreneurial spirit, and remodeling experience to execute projects that are both functional and beautiful at one of Houston’s top remodeling firms. In 2011, Ross founded Ashwood Designs & Custom Homes. Specializing in large remodeling projects and new construction, he truly enjoys collaborating with our clients to design and plan their new home and/or remodel. Ross utilizes CGI 3D design technology to bring to life our clients' dream living spaces, providing the visual that encourages honest and creative communication before construction begins.

This kitchen did not come to play.

From the dramatic stone countertops and backsplash to the mix of warm wood and crisp white cabinetry, every detail brings contrast, texture, and serious personality. Add the brass hardware, oversized globe pendant, professional range, statement pot filler, glass-front display cabinets, built-in refrigeration, and that massive island, and this space is officially bomb.com.

Beautiful enough to show off. Functional enough to actually live in.

Open cabinets aren’t for the faint of heart. It takes a special kind of person to keep them looking this good… but oh, how amazing they look when you do.

This kitchen is full of design moments we love: illuminated glass-front display cabinets, open metal shelving, stained concrete floors, a statement vent hood, classic herringbone backsplash, professional-style range with pot filler, double wall ovens, and cabinetry that takes advantage of every inch of storage.

The oversized island adds another layer with its warm stained-wood base, crisp stone countertop, and plenty of seating, while the black lantern light brings just the right amount of contrast.

It’s a great example of mixing polished finishes with a little edge — elegant, functional, and anything but boring.

Warning: this powder bath may make your guests never want to leave.

Bold navy wallpaper with metallic geometric detail sets the tone, while warm brass hardware, the oversized arched mirror, rich cabinetry, and dramatic marble-look countertop bring in just the right amount of glamour.

Powder rooms are the perfect place to take a design risk—and this one proves that a small space can make a very big impression.

If your guests start extending their stay, we can’t be held responsible.

Throwback Thursday to Jennifer’s FAVORITE bathroom picture!

“Calgon, take me away…” because if there were ever a bathroom made for escaping the day, this is it.

The freestanding tub perfectly framed by that oversized window, the sparkling chandelier, frameless glass shower, dual showerheads, herringbone floor, and patterned tile carried from the shower floor into the niches give this room so much character. Add the soft neutral palette and all that natural light, and the entire space feels calm, bright, and spa-like.

This is why we love custom design — even the bathroom can become one of your favorite rooms in the house.

Some kitchens have a focal point. This one has a leading lady.

That beautiful natural wood oven hood immediately draws your eye and brings warmth to an otherwise crisp, bright kitchen. Paired with the dramatic veined stone backsplash and countertops, deep charcoal island, white cabinetry, brass hardware, and oversized lantern pendants, every finish was chosen to balance contrast, texture, and warmth.

We also love the black-framed windows, wide-plank wood floors, under-cabinet lighting, and generous island seating that make the space as functional as it is beautiful.

Proof that when the details are right, even the oven hood deserves a little applause.

Cinderella’s dream laundry room.

With a laundry room like this, she’d have plenty of time to make it to the ball — and still be home before midnight.

Two full laundry stations, custom cabinetry, a utility sink, hanging space, generous counters, under-cabinet lighting, patterned floors, warm brass hardware, and even a chandelier make this hardworking space feel anything but boring.

Who said laundry rooms can’t be beautiful?

Happy Friday! We hope your laundry is this much fun this weekend.

Never underestimate the backsplash.

It may seem like a small design decision, but the right backsplash can completely change the look and feel of a kitchen. It adds texture, movement, contrast, and personality while tying together the cabinetry, countertops, hardware, and overall color palette.

In this space, the geometric stone pattern brings just enough visual interest to elevate the soft gray cabinetry and warm brass hardware without overwhelming the room.

It’s one of those details that proves great design is often in the layers.

Big volume, bold details, and a space that still feels warm and livable.

This great room was designed to make an impression without sacrificing comfort. The soaring ceiling and exposed wood beams add architectural interest, while the floor-to-ceiling vertical wood slat fireplace wall creates a dramatic focal point. A sleek linear fireplace, oversized fan, black metal stair railing, wide-plank wood floors, and open sightlines give the home a clean, modern feel.

We also love the mix of finishes — warm wood, crisp white walls, black accents, and statement lighting — which keeps the space contemporary without feeling cold.

When you’re building a custom home, these are the details that matter: ceiling height, sightlines, lighting, texture, and how every space connects to the next.

Designed to impress. Built to live in.
