Peekaboo! šŸ‘€šŸŽ„

Your favorite one-woman production crew reporting for duty. šŸ˜‚ Yesterday, I was at the Highland Homes model home in Pomona filming new content for my social media and YouTube channel.

And yes, I carry and set up the tripods and lights, mount the camera, hook up the wireless mics, find the angles, write the scripts, direct the talentā€¦and then apparently become the talent, too. šŸ¤£

Lately, Iā€™ve been intentionally pushing myself outside my comfort zone, showing up in new ways and doing more than I ever have before. I am determined to build my business bigger and better than it has ever beenā€”not only for myself, but to create lasting financial security and a legacy for my daughter.

Sometimes believing in yourself looks glamorous. Other times, it looks like hauling tripods through a model home and filming retake number 12. Either way, you keep going. ā¤ļø

My baby girl started Motherā€™s Day Out preschool at two years oldā€”and somehow, she was the brave one. šŸ’—

Something in me must have known her actual first morning would be a whirlwind, because after church on Sunday, I arranged our own little portrait session to document this milestone. It was unbelievably hot, she hadnā€™t had a nap, and we did the best we couldā€”but now Iā€™m so thankful we have those pictures.

Because the first morning was exactly that: a whirlwind.

There were excited children, nervous parents, bubbles, balloons, music and a long check-in line. In my mind, I had imagined kneeling down, wrapping my arms around her and giving her one last little pep talk:

Listen with your ears.
Use your manners.
Be kind.
And always remember how very much Mama loves you.

But that isnā€™t how it happened.

Everything moved so quickly. Before I knew it, she had been ushered inside with her little belongings, walking in like she owned the place.

I turned to leave and thought I was fineā€”until the lump in my throat revealed itself for what it actually was: a boulder.

My heart began to ache, my eyes filled with tears, and that boulder finally broke loose. Mama completely fell apart. The loud, ugly kind of crying, too. I truly donā€™t know why I bothered putting on makeup. šŸ˜­

I later learned that she cried for Mama for about 10ā€“15 minutes after realizing I wasnā€™t there. That broke my heartā€”but soon she was playing and having fun, exactly as I prayed she would.

And when we returned to pick her up, she saw me, came running and wrapped her little arms tightly around my neck. She was definitely ready to go homeā€”and Mama desperately needed that hug. šŸ’—

I know she is in good hands. I know this is a wonderful step for her. But knowing something is good doesnā€™t make letting go any easier.

This was the first time I left her somewhere without familyā€”someone she has always knownā€”and I think a little piece of my heart walked into that classroom with her.

She grew a little more independent that day.

And Mama grew, too. šŸ„¹šŸ’—

The Man Upstairs clearly has a sense of humorā€”because somehow Iā€™m raising a miniature version of myself. šŸ˜‚

Same sitting position. Same body language. Same energy. Same little sparkā€”only with the volume turned all the way up.

And if you know our full story, you understand why these similarities leave me a little more speechless than most. Some things are simply too perfectly written to be a coincidence. šŸ¤

And yesā€”thatā€™s my toddler face covering hers. I havenā€™t suddenly changed my mind about protecting her face online. šŸ˜‚ The real Little MJ is the upgradedā€”and much more beautifulā€”version. But the pose, personality and tiny-me energy? That is 100% her.

Please tell me Iā€™m not the only mother raising a tiny version of herself.

Apparently, Iā€™m THAT mom. šŸ˜‚

Personalized teacher bags. Potted flowers wrapped in kraft paper and twine. Little ā€œIā€™m so excited to GROW with youā€ tags. Cards. The whole thing.

Nope. No idea what anyone is talking about. šŸ˜‚

But today was Meet the Teacher, and somewhere between putting all of this together and watching my little girl walk into her very first classroom, it hit meā€¦

I waited a very long time for moments like this.

There was a time when I didnā€™t know if I would ever get to be the mom making the teacher gifts, picking out the first-day dress, taking the pictures, meeting the teachers, or feeling all the emotions that come with watching your little one begin something new.

To someone else, these may seem like ordinary moments.

To me, they are answered prayers.

Maybe thatā€™s why I make a little too much out of them. Maybe thatā€™s why I want to make things special. Because I know what it feels like to wonder if I would ever get these moments at all.

And now I do.

So yesšŸ‘ŠšŸ»ā€¦ apparently, I am THAT mom. šŸ˜‚ And Iā€™m incredibly grateful I get to be. ā¤ļø

And just when I thought the day couldnā€™t feel any more special, Yahuah gave me one more beautiful full-circle moment.

The day ended with my dear, longtime friend Shannon Shatto Oubre ā€” someone whose children I used to babysit when they were the same age my daughter is now.

Years later, there we were together, as I stepped into this chapter with my own little girl.

Gotta love how Yahuah works. ā¤ļø
