Great information!

I locked in my new contract... and since so many of you were interested when I posted about looking for lower rates about a week ago, I wanted to share what I found.

I went with Discount Power Texas plan. My electricity will cost 12 cents a kilowatt all-in. The rate from Discount is actually 7.8 cents a kwh, but then you have to add the CenterPoint or TDSP charge that is now about 4.2 cents a kwh.
There is no base charge at all.

I am currently with Express Energy. My 3-year contract with them went great. I was paying 5.3 cents a kwh (add in the TDSP, and the total is 9.5 cents a kwh)... but all they could offer me to renew was 9.2 cents a kwh (plus the TDSP charge = 14 cents a kwh)! AND they had a base charge of $9.95 a month. That's $120 a year before I ever use a single kwh of electricity.

Just thought I'd share. Electricity prices are high right now, but if you haven't shopped around or switched providers in a couple of years - you are likely paying too much. Happy Shopping!

UPDATE: I just called Discount Power back when someone in this thread told me they got a better deal Monday. I am now on a 9.3 cent per kwh plan with no base charge for 12 months (all in)!

And let me know what you you have found recently. I have 3 days to cancel with Discount Power if there is something better available.
