Homeowners Alert! If you receive a letter from the County Appraisal District, don’t ignore it! A new law requires Texas homeowners to reverify their homestead exemption every five years, and failing to respond could mean higher property taxes.
Here’s What You Need to Know:
✅ Homestead exemptions help lower your property taxes by reducing your taxable home value on their PRIMARY residence by up to $100,000 (applicable to School Taxes).
📅 New Rule: Counties must now check eligibility at least once every five years.
📬 Reverification notices are sent to select homeowners in late December or early January, with a 30-day deadline to respond.
🚨 If you don’t reapply, your exemption may be removed before April 15, and you’ll pay taxes on the full market value of your home!
How to Check Your Homestead Exemption Status:
