President Donald Trump asked multiple countries to join a naval coalition to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global oil route that has been disrupted during the escalating conflict with Iran.
But the response from many U.S. allies has been a clear refusal or reluctance to participate, with countries like the UK, France, Italy, Japan, Australia, Germany, and Spain publicly declining to send warships, while others have hesitated or offered no commitment.
The pushback has left Washington struggling to build the international coalition Trump called for to secure the vital shipping lane.
