One of the perks of living in Houston is having so many fun places within road trip distance, and Austin is an easy one at just 2.5 hours away.

Austin has always been a special place for us. It’s where Cabby went to college and where we got engaged, but somehow we hadn’t been back in a few years. So last weekend, we packed up the car, brought Rocko along for his first road trip, and headed back for a quick getaway.

So much has changed since our last visit, which meant plenty of new places to eat, drink, and add to the list for next time.

Here’s everywhere we made it to this trip. Save this for your next Austin weekend!

Finally made it to Doko in Autry Park, and we already knew we were going to be fans.

We tried a few pieces of nigiri and sashimi, the A5 Wagyu and Negitoro makimono, JFC (fried chicken with Kaluga caviar ranch), and the Tebasaki, which are fat rice stuffed chicken wings. Everything was so good.

The space is cozy and intimate, and we went on a Sunday when it wasn’t too busy, which made it even better.

We’re already big fans of the Duckstache Hospitality concepts like Himari, Aiko, Handies Douzo, and Kokoro, so Doko was an easy yes for us. Definitely one we’d go back to and highly recommend if you haven’t been yet.
