Real estate fraud is rising, including here in Wise County. Scammers attempt to list properties they don’t own, often targeting absentee owners. It’s happened to me several times recently and to other agents I know. Some transactions of fellow agents have gotten to closing, before it’s been discovered it’s a scam. If you’re selling I will request a driver’s license and ask questions to confirm you’re the legitimate owner. That extra step helps protect you and reduces the risk of fraud and liability.
