💳 10 CREDIT FACTS EVERY PERSON SHOULD KNOW
Credit isn't just about having a high score. Your entire credit profile matters.
Here are 10 things you should know:
1️⃣ Check all 3 credit reports. Experian, Equifax and TransUnion may not report exactly the same information.
2️⃣ Payment history matters. Late payments can hurt your credit, so pay at least the minimum by the due date.
3️⃣ Watch your credit card utilization. Lower balances relative to your credit limits can help your credit profile. Don't assume 30% is a magic number—the lower, the better when preparing for financing.
4️⃣ Don't close old credit cards automatically. Closing an account can reduce your available credit and potentially affect your utilization and credit history.
5️⃣ Your credit score isn't the only thing lenders review. They may also consider income, debt, payment history, recent inquiries, account balances and the type of financing you're requesting.
6️⃣ Not every credit score is the same. The score you see in an app may be different from the score a mortgage, auto or credit-card lender uses.
7️⃣ Errors should be investigated. If information on your credit report is inaccurate or incomplete, you have the right to dispute it.
8️⃣ Collections and charge-offs don't automatically disappear just because you pay them. Understand how an account will be reported before assuming payment will remove it.
9️⃣ Excellent credit is built through consistent habits. Paying on time, keeping revolving balances manageable and avoiding unnecessary applications can make a difference over time.
🔟 Know your credit BEFORE you need it. Don't wait until you're trying to buy a house, finance a car or apply for funding to discover there's a problem.
