Wrapped up this repair last week. A local solar panel company reached out to see if we could help them with an accident that happened on the job. A panel fell and damaged the deck. After doing some research we learned that the boards were discontinued and no one locally had any boards left over in their warehouses.
This is when the fun really started. The damage was wider than 11” wide, which made things a little tricky. We explored every option - patching in wouldn’t match, redecking was not an option. But creating a multiwidth breaker band in 3 spots using Picture Frame boards would solve our problem.
Used a triple board design for aesthetics and because we had a decently wide damage area to eliminate. 3.5” + 5.5” + 3.5” design made it look like it was an intentional design not an oops fix. And since you cannot just stripe the left side the middle and right side were added too.
Not an easy repair in the least! So much blocking to add, dry aged boards were nerve wracking to rip, refastening the ripped ends so they were secure, and lots of other hurdles. BUT they did it AND it really looks AMAZING! And it looks like it was supposed to be there all along.
Accidents happen sometimes, but it is a chance for rebirth of a space! And this deck definitely received a facelift it didn’t know it needed ✨✨
thank you for your help getting this done!
