SCAM SEASON IS IN FULL BLOOM
The weather is getting warmer, flowers are blooming, and unfortunately... scammers are back in season too.
Recently, we've seen an increase in reports involving scammers pretending to be government agencies, utility companies, banks, tech support, and even law enforcement. Their goal is always the same: separate you from your money.
A few scams making the rounds right now:
• Someone claims to be from the FCC, IRS, Social Security, or another government agency and says you owe money or your account is in trouble.
• A caller demands payment using Bitcoin, gift cards, cryptocurrency, or a payment app. That's your clue that something isn't right.
• A "grandchild" or family member suddenly needs emergency money and begs you not to tell anyone.
• A text message claims you have an unpaid toll, package delivery problem, or suspicious bank activity and urges you to click a link.
Let's make this simple:
Government agencies do not accept payment in gift cards.
The police do not call and demand Bitcoin.
The FCC is not collecting fines with cryptocurrency.
And your grandson probably isn't stranded in another state asking for Apple gift cards.
Before sending money, providing personal information, or clicking a link, stop and verify. Call the company, agency, or family member directly using a trusted phone number.
If something feels off, it probably is.
