What’s New Wednesday: Route 66 Gets a Boost

Route 66 is getting some extra attention here in McLean County. Nearly $500,000 in state grants will help fund local Route 66 attractions and preservation projects, including restoration work at Sprague’s Super Service in Normal.

It’s a little investment in local history, tourism and the places that make our area unique. And with Route 66 celebrating its centennial in 2026, the timing makes sense.

Meet Guadalupe! This beautiful Shepherd/Lab mix is part of the National Park litter and was born August 10, 2026. She’s expected to grow into a medium-sized adult and is ready to start her next adventure!

Guadalupe is curious, playful, and social, and she’s just beginning to explore the world around her. Like any young puppy, she’ll need a family ready to help her learn house training, crate training, basic manners, and appropriate play. With patience, consistency, and plenty of love, Guadalupe will be ready to grow alongside her forever family.

What’s New Wednesday: Solar Comes to McLean County

McLean County’s first community solar farm is officially up and running.

The 1.98 megawatt project near Downs has 3,364 solar panels and is designed to help income eligible households save on their electric bills.

It also brings renewable energy into the local land use conversation, which is something we’ll likely see more of as McLean County continues to grow.

For real estate, the bigger question isn’t whether a solar farm automatically changes property values. It’s how projects like this could influence how land is used and developed in the years ahead.
