π Make a Day of Railroading on July 8! π
Thousands of railroad enthusiasts are expected to visit Huntingdon County on July 8 as Union Pacific Big Boy No. 4014, the world's largest operating steam locomotive, passes through the area.
East Broad Top Railroad staff and volunteers will be gathering near historic Hunt Tower in Huntingdon to watch Big Boy's visit, and we'd love to see you there. We'll have hot dogs, light refreshments, and plenty of railroad conversation as we celebrate this rare event.
Then, continue your railroad day at the East Broad Top Railroad aboard our special Mountain Twilight Excursion, departing Rockhill Furnace at 5:00 PM. This excursion will be powered by the East Broad Top's historic steam locomotive.
This one-time excursion will travel the entire length of the East Broad Top's operating railroad and will be the only train operating at the EBT on July 8. As an added treat, complimentary ice cream will be served during the trip.
Whether you're traveling to Huntingdon County specifically for Big Boy or simply looking for a memorable summer evening train ride, July 8 offers a unique opportunity to experience two remarkable railroad events in a single day.
